Regional Officers

Joan Meechee BSN,RN- President

Joan currently work at the OR/Endoscopy department at Chilton Medical Center. Joan was the Charge Nurse in the Ambulatory/ In-House Endoscopy Department at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Paterson, N.J. She was mentored by Founding member of the SGNA Society Doris Barnie. Her friendship, guidance, mentoring and love inspired her to become the nurse that she is today. She has great respect and love for the study and progression of Gastroenterology. She was the chairperson for the NJ Tri-Regional Conference.in 2019. With her enthusiasm, Joan is honored to once again serve our regional chapter as President for 2021!

Ivonne Carvajal BSN,RN,CGRN- President Elect

Ivonne has been a Registered Nurse at Morristown Medical Center since 1995. She started working on the PCU then 2000,she began her career in Endoscopy at the Digestive Center and remains Full-time in their Ambulatory Endoscopy Center. Ivonne has been involved in her department's QI and Performance Improvement Audits in the area of Infection Control/HLD. She is a Magnet Champion and is a preceptor. She graduated from Rutger's College of Nursing in 1995 and maintains her CGRN.Despite the occurence of the Covid-19 Pandemic, as our 2020 President, she continued to actively communicate with the officers and members the best she can!  It is an honor to have served as NNJ Regional President in 2020, be the Immediate Past President, and now President-Elect for 2021!
 

Emma Gimmel BSN,RN- Secretary

Emma can speak to over 24 years in Endoscopy from a staff nurse to leadership as Manager and DON. Her most recent leadership role is serving as Director of Nursing at Manhatten Endoscopy Center. Since 2011, Emma has continued to work hands-on as a per diem on-call Endoscopy and PACU staff nurse at Bayonne Medical Center. Emma graduated in 1988 and started her nursing profession at Jersey City Medical Center in the Post Surgical Orthopedic Unit from where she quickly became a preceptor and also worked in SICU. Emma followed a lateral move in the ICU at Morristown Medical Center where eventually she transferred to Interventional Radiology and finally to Endosocpy where she worked in both in-hospital and ambulatory. Her role as chair of Practice council. and participation in other commiitees in the Shared Governance prepared her to take her successful leadership path. Emma has been involved in Quality Improvement and Infection prevention. Up to now, Emma has always been a forward thinker since she started nursing school where she explored her interests in technology skills by taking computer classes. Since then Emma regularly attends,conferences to maintain current in her profession. Emma is no stranger to volunteer work as a translater in community health, medical missionary trips and peer support. As secretary for our region, she hope toshare and gain more experience with her fellow peers in support of the vision of SGNA best nursing practice.

AnnMarie Allarey-Quimbo BSN RN CGRN - Treasurer

Has been a nurse for over 30+ years. Graduated from York College of Pa. with a BSN. AnnMarie was one of the first participants in the Nurse Externship program introduced at Hackensack Univ.Med.Ctr. in Surgical ICU in 1988. She worked on the Dialysis/Diabetic unit at HUMC and in the MICU at St.Joseph's in Paterson and in HUMC. Worked in Endoscopy for 19+ years and has been a SGNA member for 17+ years.She has maintained her CGRN for 15 years. AnnMarie has been a member and chairperson at her Endo Department's Unit Base Council, BLS instructor for her department as well as a member of the Staff Advisory Council. AnnMarie is enthusiastic in updating her colleagues with what she learns from SGNA, so much that she has introduced the idea of "Night of Endoscopy" in her unit. She has been involved in several NNJ SGNA committees as well as served as NNJ SGNA President-Elect/President 2014/2015. Because of what she learned during her Presidency, with the support of her fellow officers/conference committee members and fellow SGNA member from Old Dominion Chapter, AnnMarie was involved in advancing our approach to On-line registration and credit card acceptance for our 2019 Annual SGNA NJ Tri-Regional Conference. AnnMarie is honored to serve as NNJ SGNA's Treasurer for a second term.

Stay Safe in 2021 Everyone!! May 2021 be better and be filled with GI Education and continuous Support from our GI Peers!

All Meetings: Dinner 6:30 pm - Lecture begins 7:00 pm and short business meetings follow 

When restrictions on usage of conference rooms during COVID are uplifted, we hope to resume our meetings and may we continue to network amongst our GI peers!

Next meeting: 1st in 2021 Morristown- Date TBA Social Distancing in effect-Please wear mask upon entering facility!
